This Privacy Policy explains how TechStackJobs ("we", "us", or "the Platform") collects, uses, shares, and protects your personal information when you use our website and services.

By using TechStackJobs, you consent to the practices described in this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Platform.

2. Information we collect

We collect information you provide directly, information generated by your use of the Platform, and limited information from third parties.

Information you provide

  • Account details: name, email address, password, and account type (seeker or employer)
  • Profile information: headline, bio, location, skills, LinkedIn/GitHub/portfolio links
  • Application materials: resumes (PDF), cover notes, and application metadata
  • Employer content: company name, logo, description, website, job listings, and billing details
  • Communications: messages you send to us via the contact form or email

Information collected automatically

  • Usage data: pages visited, features used, search queries, and click patterns
  • Device information: browser type, operating system, screen resolution, and device identifiers
  • Log data: IP address, access times, referring URLs, and error logs
  • Cookies and similar technologies: session cookies for authentication and analytics cookies for Platform improvement (see Section 7)

Information from third parties

  • OAuth providers: if you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email, and profile picture
  • Payment processor: Stripe provides us with transaction confirmations and subscription status (we do not store full card numbers)

3. How we use your information

We use your information to operate and improve the Platform. Specifically:

  • Provide core functionality: account management, job browsing, applications, and employer tools
  • Match scoring: analyze your skills and experience against job listings to calculate match percentages
  • Communications: send transactional emails (application confirmations, status updates, password resets) and, with your consent, product updates
  • Platform improvement: analyze usage patterns to improve features, fix bugs, and optimize performance
  • Security: detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and unauthorized access
  • Legal compliance: respond to legal requests and enforce our Terms of Service

4. How we share your information

We do not sell your personal data. We do not run ads. We share information only in these limited circumstances:

  • With employers: when you apply to a job, we share your application materials (resume, cover note, profile) with the posting employer
  • Service providers: we use third-party services (hosting, email delivery, payment processing, analytics) that process data on our behalf under contractual obligations
  • Legal obligations: we may disclose information when required by law, regulation, legal process, or government request
  • Business transfers: in the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your data may be transferred as part of that transaction

We require all third-party service providers to maintain the confidentiality and security of your data and to use it only for the purposes for which it was shared.

5. Data retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you with our services.

  • Account data: retained until you delete your account
  • Application data: retained for 12 months after the associated job listing closes, then automatically deleted
  • Resumes: stored encrypted and deleted when you remove them from your account or when your account is deleted
  • Usage and log data: retained for up to 24 months for analytics and security purposes, then aggregated or deleted
  • Billing records: retained as required by tax and financial regulations (typically 7 years)

When you delete your account, we remove your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law. Aggregated, anonymized data that cannot identify you may be retained indefinitely.

6. Your rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:

  • Access: request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
  • Correction: request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data
  • Deletion: request deletion of your data (subject to legal retention requirements)
  • Portability: request your data in a structured, machine-readable format
  • Objection: object to certain processing activities, including direct marketing
  • Withdrawal of consent: withdraw consent for optional data processing at any time

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at hello@techstackjobs.com. We will respond within 30 days. You can also delete your account and associated data directly from your account settings.

7. Cookies & tracking

We use cookies and similar technologies for the following purposes:

  • Essential cookies: required for authentication, session management, and security. These cannot be disabled.
  • Analytics cookies: help us understand how the Platform is used so we can improve it. These are anonymized and can be opted out of.

We do not use advertising cookies or share cookie data with ad networks. You can manage cookie preferences through your browser settings.

8. Security

We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your data, including:

  • Encryption of data in transit (TLS) and at rest
  • Encrypted storage of resumes and sensitive documents
  • Hashed and salted password storage
  • Regular security reviews and dependency updates
  • Access controls limiting employee access to personal data

No system is perfectly secure. If you discover a security vulnerability, please report it to security@techstackjobs.com.

9. International data transfers

TechStackJobs is based in the United States. If you access the Platform from outside the US, your data may be transferred to and processed in the United States.

We rely on standard contractual clauses and other legally approved mechanisms for transferring personal data across borders where required.

10. Children's privacy

TechStackJobs is not intended for individuals under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we will promptly delete it.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify registered users of material changes via email and update the "last updated" date at the top of this page.

Continued use of the Platform after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
